Behavioral Health Technician

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

This position requires a High School Diploma or GED.  Must be over the age of 18.  Reliable judgment, good observation skills, dependability, and forthright demeanor are required.  It requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.  A Class E Driver’s License is required at the time of hiring or can be obtained within two weeks thereof.  Certification in CPR is required or can be obtained shortly after being hired.  Flexibility to perform shift work is essential, as well as the ability to accurately record and communicate diverse information.  Familiarity in using computer programs such as Microsoft Office is beneficial.  Must respect and maintain confidentiality of all aspects of client treatment.  Must pass background check provided for the agency by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Family Care Safety Registry which includes the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Department of Social Services, Department of Mental Health and Department of Health and Senior Services.  Must not be on any “do not hire” list with the Department of Mental Health or the Missouri Division of Family Services. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

The Behavioral Health Technician position requires the ability to communicate verbally and in writing with co-workers and clients.  Supervises, observes, monitors and records the day-to-day activities of clients and advises the appropriate clinical or supervisory personnel of any medical or behavior problems noted.  Responsible for the safety and well being of the clients and staff members in their charge. Monitors and reports unusual or non-therapeutic client behaviors following established reporting procedures. Maintains accurate records of client medication procedures and documents the self-administration of approved medications by clients.  Informs clients of the program and facility rules and procedures through client orientation and reminds them as indicated of those rules and procedures as situations warrant.  Must be able to operate multi-line telephone system, record incoming messages accurately, and to place telephone calls as necessary or directed.  Will follow all agency policies and procedures.  Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of the job.
