Substance Abuse Counselor

QUALIFICATIONS:

A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in groups and public settings is essential.  Must demonstrate highly developed verbal and written communication skills; demonstrate skill in clinical interviewing; demonstrate skills in consultation and the ability to work as part of a team.  Must respect and maintain confidentiality of all aspects of client treatment.  Must pass background check provided for the agency by the U.S. Department of Justice and Family Care Safety Registry which includes the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Department of Social Services, Department of Mental Health, and Department of Health and Senior Services.  Must not be on any “do not hire” list with the Department of Mental Health or the Missouri Division of Family Services.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education and experience is a plus and must match those required for professional credentialing boards.

Recognition by the Missouri Substance Abuse Professional Credentialing Board, or its successor, as:

 

·          Recognized Associate Substance Abuse Counselor I (RASAC I)

·          Recognized Associate Substance Abuse Counselor II (RASAC II)

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Counsels and aids individuals, groups and families requiring assistance dealing with substance abuse problems, such as alcohol or drug abuse and/or chemical dependency and abuse.  Regular and consistent attendance is an essential job function.  This position requires knowledge in the field of substance abuse in a community based social learning theory based treatment. Develops positive and productive client relationships and negotiates complex social service systems to obtain needed services and resources for clients.  Counsels clients individually and in group sessions to assist clients in overcoming alcohol and drug dependency related issues.
